WHAT IS EASTERN WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY EARLY HEAD START ? Since 1992, Eastern Washington University (EWU) has provided comprehensive services to families with infant and toddler services in Ferry, Stevens and Pend Oreille Counties. EWU receives federal funds to provide year-round Early Head Start (EHS) services to 116 children and families and to pregnant women who live in the Tri-Counties. Eastern Washington University has provided Early Head Start services in the Tri-County area of Northeastern Washington State since 1998. Based on the needs of each family, EWU EHS partners with parents and other community agencies to provide and coordinate a wide range of services.

WHERE DO FAMILIES RECEIVE SERVICES? Home-based Families can receive year-round Early Head Start services in their own home in: ü Stevens County ü Ferry County ü Pend Oreille County Center-based Infants and toddlers can receive services at the child development center in: ü Colville (morning and afternoon sessions) The Colville EHS Center is open year-round, Monday – Thursday.

WHO CAN RECEIVE EARLY HEAD START SERVICES? EWU EHS serves: ü Pregnant women ü Infants ü Toddlers (up to age 3 years) Early Head Start is a voluntary federal program for low income families (determined by the federal poverty guidelines). Families above the federal poverty level may be eligible if they: ü Have a foster child ü Have a child with special needs or a disability ü Live outside the city limits of Colville, Newport, Chewelah or Kettle Falls (by special permission of regional Office of Head Start) Families can get more information about enrolling by: Calling toll free: 1-(800) 776-9136 - OR - |
